Japanese Dishes, Gobo recipes, Bento Dishes-Kimpira Stir Fried Gobo&Beef

 Gobo/burdock root should be also labeled as super food. Not only it contents lots of fibers, it also has lots of nutritious. Helps you prevent from high blood pressure, heart attack, diabetes. It also has anti aging effect! It’s just a root, doesn’t look pretty. It’s very tough to cut apart but once you get along with this vegetable, you will be able to create so many healthy dishes! This time I stir fry with sliced beef. Gobo and beef combination always gives very good result. This dish can be served either hot or at room temperature. It’s also very suitable to pack into your bento box with steamed rice!

[ Ingredients ] *tsp=tea spoon tbs=table spoon
~ serves two ~
160g Sliced beef or pork
100g Gobo/burdock root
30g Carrot
1/4 Onion
1/2 White sesame
3 tbs Sake
1/2 tbs Sugar
1 tbs Soy sauce
1/2 tbs Mirin
1/2 tbs Sesame oil

[ Directions ]

1. Shred gobo. To see more details, please watch the video clip below.

2. Slice carrot.

3. Spread each slice like a deck of cards and start shredding.

4. Slice onion.

5. This time I used sliced beef. Gobo always goes very well with beef

6. Cut into half.

7. Preheat a fry pan over medium heat. Drizzle a little bit of oil and then add sliced beef.

8. Take each piece apart allow every slices to make contact to the pan.

9. Add salt & black pepper.

10. As soon as all slices have changed color, you can remove from the pan.

(•̀ㅂ•́)وTo avoid overcooking the meat, each material should be cooked separately.


11. Don’t bother washing the pan. Using remaining beef oil, you can continue cooking vegetable!

12. Stir fry over medium high heat util it becomes soft but sill has some crunchiness.

13. Add all the seasonings listed above and stir well.

14. Adding sesame oil can give nice aroma to your Kimpira dish.

(•̀ㅂ•́)وIf you like it spicy, you can add a touch of chili oil as well!


15. Stir well allow all seasonings to spread evenly.

16. You can now put the meat back into the pan.

(•̀ㅂ•́)وTry not to reheat your meat too long. The meat will turn dry and tough by over cooking.

17. Lastly sprinkle some white sesame, stir it and shut off the stove.
