Japanese food, Bento recipe-Oyster sauce based Beef stew bento


Bento doesn’t have to come in solid food. Have some nice and warm oyster sauce based beef stew for lunch!!

[ Ingredients ]
~serves four ~
360g beef finger ribs, boneless
1/2 onion
8~10 mushrooms
1 tablespoon butter
1 each red & yellow bell pepper
2~3 stems thyme
100ml red wine
400g canned tomato, put into blender to puree
4 tablespoon ketchup
1 tablespoon oyster sauce

4 bowls steamed rice
1 tablespoon butter
2~3 teaspoon sliced almond, roasted

[ Directions ]

1. Slice mushrooms

2. Cut bell peppers into small pieces.

3. Slice onion

4. Cut beef rib fingers into about 2~3cm.
POINT-ENG

*If you want to reduce the cooking time, you may want to cut into much smaller..
*you can substitute chicken or pork.

5. Melt butter in a pot on medium heat and then add sliced mushroom and onion.

6. Stir-fry until onion become translucent. Turn the stove to low heat keep stir frying.

7. On the other hand, put the cut beef into a large bowl and add salt & pepper.

8. Sprinkle flour.

9. Mix well make sure each piece gets floured.

*Flouring can seal in the meat moisture inside.

10. Sautee the floured meat on oiled fry pan on medium heat.

*You don’t have to cook until done but all the surfaces get golden brown.

11. Pour in red wine. Scrape off the bottom of the fry pan.

*make sure to scrape clean. all the good stuff is there!!

12. Transfer the whole thing including red wine to the pot.

13. Add bell pepper.

14. Pour in pureed tomato.

15. Add thyme or whatever the herbs you like and keep simmering until beef gets soften.

*If the water level gets too low, you can add some water so you can continue cooking.

16. When beef is soft, add oyster sauce and ketchup to taste.

*oyster sauce gives you full of umami flavor to the stew!! what’s “umami”? please check here!

17. Melt some butter in fry pan on medium heat. add steamed rice, After stir frying, sprinkle in some roasted slice almond.

POINT-ENG

*Beware! if you are preparing in the morning saving it for lunch time, make sure all the food is cooled down before you pack up! Keeping it at tepid temperature for many hours can easily go stale!
